General Summary

Planning, organizing and performing activities for overhead cranes operations required for carrying out smooth operations of the melt shop.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Carries out duties assigned by the Supervisor according to production requirements. • Ensures availability of cranes, as required for SMP operation. • Ensures that all safety precautions in the crane are working properly and abides by the Company safety policies. • Ensures that work area is clean and free of any obstacles or encumbrances. • Ensures the effective implementation of operational policies covering all areas of the cranes so that all relevant procedural / legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering a cost –effective service to SMP operation. • In case of an emergency, maintains calm and acts in the most appropriate manner as per work instructions. • In the event of any problems with the crane equipment, takes the lead in getting the problems rectified and tests it prior to taking over the equipment for operation. • To ensure proper hands-on training is imparted to new employees on the proper usage of the overhead cranes.

• To coordinate with SMP operation regarding the priority of jobs to be executed. • To coordinate with EAF/LF and refractories on a regular basis to optimise the productivity of the plant. • To carry out routine inspection of the crane and notify electrical/mechanical personnel regarding any abnormality observed.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.: • Sufficient technical knowledge of s their and operational parameters. • Good planning skills. • Time Management.

Minimum Education Qualification (Education Degree)

Higher Secondary

Any preferred professional training

Higher Secondary School/ITI

Experience of operating of molten steel handling crane in a steel plant

Professional Experience (Must haves)

Around 3-5 years in a Steel Plant as a Crane Operator of which a minimum of 2 years as Senior Crane Operator in molten steel handling crane

Previous Experience/exposure Recommendations

Around 8-10 years with steel industry as a molten steel handling Crane Operator

• To ensure that all relevant safety, health, environmental management policies & procedures are abided to guarantee employee safety. • To ensure shift production targets are achieved to meet the annual production plan of the section & department. • To ensure that the crane availability is guaranteed as per the operational requirement of SMP1. • To suggest ways and means to improve the safety and operations of the overhead cranes
