Section Head - Electrical

Role Purpose

Central Electrical Manager is responsible for leading the Electrical maintenance team to ensure safe and efficient electrical services provided for different plants by Planning and execution of scheduled preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance and major repair activities as well as troubleshooting during unscheduled breakdowns of all related equipment as per Area of accountability.

Responsibilities:

Availability:

  • Ensure maximizing the equipment availability in line with the annual corporate objectives by controlling and minimizing the unscheduled delays within the budget.
  • Review the business risks associated with the equipment/systems related and provide technical solutions/recommendations/improvements to the higher management to sustain/improve the overall availability.

Leadership:

  • Ensure availability of motivated workforce in the respective sections of the department to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Responsible for regularly nominating employees for safety and technical training & development programs to ensure availability of necessary skills to perform current and future jobs and to improve the team competencies.
  • Regularly attend the departmental and company meetings to ensure effective communication between various agencies and timely resolution of outstanding issues.

Maintenance Planning:

  • Ensure effective planning and execution of preventive and predictive maintenance activities to minimize unscheduled downtime and trouble-free operation.
  • Liaison with maintenance Planning Section to carry out the scheduled PM jobs and Corrective maintenance jobs during scheduled shutdown or during any opportunity as per plants process requirement.  
  • Review daily maintenance work orders and classify them into corrective or preventive maintenance categories so that work plan can be drawn up.
  • Liaison with Condition Monitoring to review and plan for corrective and predictive maintained based on actual condition of equipment.
  • Ensure effective utilization of available resources to fulfil the department objectives.
  • Review the planned PM jobs and actual PM jobs executed during shutdowns and / or available opportunity if needed, fine tune the schedule or re-arrange the resources without compromising the equipment/systems availability and safety. 
  • Ensure that job details are correctly completed and entered onto maintenance systems to ensure that accurate performance trends can be identified and electrical maintenance jobs are handled in a timely manner.

Prioritizing and Planning:

  • Study all electrical maintenance requests and prioritize them in order of importance to prepare daily/weekly/monthly/yearly plans and ensure that equipment availability is maximized.

Analysis and Reporting:

  • Prepare regular management reports based upon analysis of the activities so that action plans can be developed to address equipment stoppage and fault analysis issues and hence improve maintenance service to internal customers.

Spare parts management:

  • Ensure proper spare parts management. Conduct periodical spare parts audits and update availability in line with budgetary guidelines.

 

Production Liaison:

  • Meet with other operation teams and operation directors if required to discuss the requirements of central electrical equipment / systems.

Trouble Shooting/Problem Solving & Root Cause Analysis:

  • Responsible for evaluating and solving technical problems in supporting the achievement of uninterrupted operation.
  • To lead the maintenance team and subordinates on non-routine problems, applying specialist skills to resolve problems quickly and effectively.
  • Personally provide technical input and hands-on skills for the resolution of major maintenance problems so that lined down time is minimized, and direct reports advance their technical understanding.
  • Carryout root cause analysis and establish suitable countermeasures to prevent occurrence of repeated problems.

Performance Review:

  • Review outstanding jobs and trend analyses on a weekly basis to address underlying reasons for service non-compliance and put in place appropriate action plans to effect correction.

Budgeting & Cost Control:

  • Responsible for Planning, Preparing & Proposing accurate Annual Budget for Operation and Capital expenses for management approval with proper justification to keep the equipment/ systems effectively operational.
  • Responsible for managing and controlling the approved Operation and Capital budget and optimizing actual cost to ensure cost effectiveness in line with corporate objective.

Team supervision:

  • Guide, monitor and train own team so that the employees have the appropriate skills and behaviors required to deliver required levels of service to internal customers.

National Development Program:

  • Responsible to meet corporate and departmental objectives for UAE national development and integration in the respective section of Central E&A Department.
  • Assist in developing U.A.E. national trainees / employees to prepare them ready for acquiring targeted positions in line with IDP developed as per company policies.

Organizational Development and Recruitment: 

  • Maintain an optimum organization structure so that the resources are effectively utilized and communication can take place in efficient manner.
  • Assist hiring of maintenance personnel as per vacant position in approved organization.

Employee performance review:

  • Conduct employee performance review based on job descriptions to determine competency, knowledge, and contribution of the maintenance technicians.

 

Policies and Procedures:

  • Ensure the implementation of corporate, company and departmental policies and procedures.

 

 

  1. Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plant cleanliness: Implements programs and procedures required to ensure equipment and related facilities cleanliness.
  • Plant expansions: Assists for planning and implementing Equipment/systems improvements, revamping,  and upgrades.
  • Others: Drive start up effort at the facility; therefore, participate in staffing effort, lead spare part procurement effort, lead maintenance training effort, identify/secure critical supply and service agreements, lead the maintenance group during checkout and commissioning of the facility, etc.
  • Any special assignment/Task given by higher management including but not limited to “Feasibility studies”, “Active involvement in Project/Revamping/Expansion” as needed by corporate, company and department.

Ensure Safety and Regulatory Compliance:

  • Support the promotion of a strong safety culture by actively participating in safety initiatives and fostering safe work practices. Assist in managing safety risks, monitoring equipment, and contributing to performance outcomes. Ensure compliance with EHS legislative requirements and the Company’s EHS policies, procedures, and standards among team members and contractors.

 

 

Qualifications/Experience

Minimum Qualification

(Educational Qualifications, Trainings, or Certifications)

  • B SC. Degree of electrical/Electronic engineering.
  • Technical master’s degree / MBA / Technical training / Technical certification (will be preferred)

Professional Experience

  • 10-15 years’ proven experience in electrical systems (MV & LV) & automation systems maintenance (at least 5 years as electrical sec. head or team leader).
  • Previous Experience in steel manufacturing plants (Direct reduction, Steel making, rolling mills) is preferred.
  • Experience in energy management applications is preferred.
