Specialist Level 2 & 3

 

Role Purpose

Responsible for maintaining and developing Level 2 and Level 3 automation systems, including both hardware and software, in accordance with process requirements. This role ensures the smooth operation of these systems, integrates them with Level 1 and ERP systems and delivers results promptly, maximizing plant utilization while adhering to highest safety standards.

 

Accountability & Activities

Key Activities

System availability: Ensure system availability by maintaining Level2/Level3 systems hardware and software.

Level 2/3 system: Ensure proper functioning functions as listed but not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain L2/L3 automation software and hardware systems.
  • Monitor system interfaces and diagnose technical issues in real time.
  • Design and support custom applications in industrial programming environments.
  • Perform system backups, recovery procedures, and regular server/database administration.
  • Collaborate closely with production and engineering to support operational needs.
  • Contribute to projects with a focus on technical execution and problem solving.
  • Document systems configurations, user guides, and support materials.
  • Train users and peers on system functionalities and updates.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement preventive solutions.
  • Participate in system audits and compliance processes.
  • Assist in spare parts management and support maintenance of related infrastructure.

Work Planning & Reporting:

Review automation reports to identify routine issues, prioritize day-to-day tasks, and contribute to planning to ensure smooth operation. Assist in preparing technical inputs for daily reports.

Spare Parts & Production Liaison:

Monitor and flag spares usage or requirements. Coordinate with production on minor system interventions and assist with scheduling minor system related downtimes.

Problem Solving:

Lead hands-on resolution of mid-level system problems. Escalate complex issues to the Senior Specialist while documenting findings and contributing to root cause analysis.

Performance Review:

Track and update outstanding support tasks. Analyse recurring issues and support implementation of preventive measures.

National Development Program:

Support the development of junior engineers and trainees by sharing knowledge, supervising tasks, and providing feedback on performance.

Safety, Quality & Environment

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, quality and environmental management policies, procedures and controls within the Technology department of ES to ensure employee safety, legislative compliance, delivery of high-quality services and a responsible environmental attitude.

 

Qualifications/Experience

Minimum Qualification

(Educational Qualifications, Trainings, or Certifications)

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Electrical/ Electronics / Mechatronics / Computer Science or related Engineering fields

Professional Experience

  • More than 5 years of automation experience in steel plants
