Shift Engineer

Role Purpose

To manage and coordinate all shift operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production while leading personnel and maintaining equipment performance.

 

Accountabilities & Activities

Key Activities

  1. Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Key Accountabilities)
  • Overall Shift Management: Oversee and coordinate all operational activities during assigned shifts to ensure smooth and efficient plant operation.
  • Production Supervision: Monitor production processes, equipment performance, and production parameters to maintain optimal productivity levels.
  • Team Leadership: Provide direction and leadership to shift personnel, including operators, technicians, and maintenance staff, to ensure adherence to safety protocols and production targets.
  • Problem Solving: Identify and resolve operational issues, equipment failures, and process deviations to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency.
  • Safety Compliance: Enforce safety procedures and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel. Conduct safety inspections and address any safety concerns promptly.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications by monitoring product quality and coordinating with quality control personnel as needed.
  • Shift Reporting: Prepare shift reports detailing production output, equipment performance, incidents, and any other relevant information for communication to management and incoming shift personnel.
  • Maintenance Coordination: Coordinate with maintenance teams to schedule and prioritize equipment maintenance activities during shifts to minimize disruptions to production.
  • Communication: Facilitate communication between different departments, shift teams, and management to ensure alignment of goals, priorities, and operational strategies.
  • Shift Handover: Conduct thorough shift handovers, communicating relevant information, issues, and priorities to incoming shift personnel to ensure seamless transition and continuity of operations.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Training and Development: Provide training and guidance to shift personnel on operational procedures, safety protocols, and equipment usage to enhance their skills and performance.
  • Emergency Response: Act as the primary point of contact during emergencies or unexpected events, coordinating response efforts and implementing contingency plans to mitigate risks and ensure safety.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization, efficiency improvements, and cost reduction initiatives to enhance overall plant performance and profitability.
  • Any additional duties/ task requested by the line manager.

 

  1. Ensure Safety and Regulatory Compliance:
  • Support the promotion of a strong safety culture by actively participating in safety initiatives and fostering safe work practices. Assist in managing safety risks, monitoring equipment, and contributing to performance outcomes. Ensure compliance with EHS legislative requirements and the Company’s EHS policies, procedures, and standards among team members and contractors.

Qualifications/Experience

Minimum Qualification

(Educational Qualifications, Trainings, or Certifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical/industrial engineering

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in production department within a cement manufacturing plant.

Language(s) Known

  • English (Essential) / Arabic
