General Summary

The Quality Director - Quality Management oversees quality control processes at the steel manufacturing plant, ensuring products meet the highest quality standards. This role guarantees compliance with industry regulations and customer specifications, driving strategic quality improvements, maintaining rigorous quality standards, and ensuring timely delivery of superior products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Contribution:  Develop, obtain approval, and implement the annual operating plan, policies & procedures for Quality Management to enable the achievement of Emirates Steel agreed business objectives.  Provide professional advice and support to all levels of the business on Quality Management and Operational related issues to ensure that the operational and production capability of the business is optimised. People and Capability:  Organizational and Performance Management: Structure and influence the Quality Management organization to align with strategic priorities, set and monitor performance expectations, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.  Strategic Communication and Planning: Translate and communicate strategic direction to direct reports, aiding in the development of short and medium-term plans.  Talent and Leadership Development: Participate in talent reviews, identify skill gaps, coach employees, and support the development of future leaders.  Training and Development Coordination: In collaboration with People Division, Oversee and coordinate all Competency, training and development activities. Quality Management:  Quality Management Governance: Ensure with collaboration of VP Manufacturing, and QA Director the implementation and continuous improvement of Quality Assurance Frameworks and governance and standards for Emirates steel integrated steelworks, that will enable its strategic vision.  Performance Monitoring: Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and hold leaders accountable for achieving desired outcomes, driving continuous improvement.  Resource Allocation: Allocate skilled maintenance resources and facilities strategically to ensure attainment of Quality Management strategic targets.  Contract/Partnership Management: Coordinate appropriate contractual services to complement internal Quality Management functions as required.  Quality Assurance and Control: Collaborate with Director QA and Director R&D for Emirates Steel to ensure highest standards and latest technology for Quality management  Capital Expenditure Management: Develop business cases for capital expenditure to ensure delivery of Quality Management projects. Budgeting & Cost Control:  Budget Management: Develop and manage an annual budget (Quality Management and Capital) aligned with the Strategic direction to ensure delivery.  Financial Oversight: Oversee the creation of cost reports for variance analysis, identify actions to address gaps, and ensure accurate, timely financial forecasts for Quality Management.  Performance Metrics: Foster a strong understanding of financial measures and KPIs within the Quality Management teams, ensuring the achievement of forecasted and budgeted throughput and conversion costs. Safety, Quality & Environment:  Risk Management: Strategically develop and implement risk mitigation strategies while ensuring departmental activities minimize risks to employees, contractors, and the environment.  Safety Culture: Embrace the Emirates Steel Safety culture and lead the team and initiatives to drive a strong safety culture organization-wide, fostering a proactive approach and ensuring the department upholds safety standards and practices.  Incident and Hazard Management: Oversee and ensure comprehensive incident/accident reporting and hazard management processes are integrated into departmental operations.  Compliance Assurance: Ensure full compliance with OHS and environmental policies at a strategic level and guarantee departmental adherence to these standards and regulations.

Continuous Improvement: Strategically implement continuous improvement initiatives for safety and environmental practices, achieving departmental performance goals.  Stakeholder Communication: Communicate safety and environmental obligations to all stakeholders clearly, ensuring understanding and compliance at both strategic and departmental levels.  Policy Integration: Integrate safety, quality, and environmental management policies into the department's strategic goals, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives and daily operations. Policies & Procedures:  Direct the development and oversee the implementation of operational policies covering all areas of Asset Management and Services activity so that all relevant procedural / legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering a quality, cost-effective service to customers. Supply Chain, commercial and Quality Management:  Quality Engineering Solutions: Innovatively Integrate with commercial functions with engineering solutions to understand and improve quality management with markets for steel products.  Quality Assurance & Control: Maintain ISO 9001 quality management certification by ensuring compliance with systems. Operations Management:  Operational Partnership: Cultivate a collaborative partnership with the operations team to enhance business outcomes and operational efficiency.  Operational Excellence: Assist in developing and implementing operational practices that support the achievement of Operational targets, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.

Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities required

 Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate and manage teams.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with stakeholders at all levels.  In-depth knowledge of Quality Management processes and methodologies.  Understanding of Standards and requirements related to Quality Management activities.  Proficient in Statistical Data Analytical and problem-solving skills.  Project management skills.  Commercial awareness and business acumen.  Knowledge of ISO 9001 and other relevant standards

Minimum Education Qualification (Education Degree)

Bachelor in Degree

Any preferred professional training

Six Sigma Black Belt  Leadership training.  Intellectual property training.

Professional Experience (Must haves)

At least 15 years of experience in Quality management or a related field.  Proven track record of developing and implementing successful Quality Management strategies.

Previous Experience/exposure Recommendations

Experience in the steel industry or a related industry.

Product Quality  Defect Rate: Percentage of products that fail to meet quality standards.  First Pass Yield (FPY): Percentage of products that pass quality inspection the first time without rework.  Scrap Rate: Percentage of materials wasted due to defects or non-conformance. Compliance and Standards  Audit Findings: Number of non-conformances identified during internal and external audits.  Regulatory Compliance Rate: Percentage of compliance with relevant industry regulations and standards.  Corrective Action Closure Rate: Time taken to close corrective actions from audits or inspections. Customer Satisfaction  Customer Complaints: Number and severity of customer complaints related to product quality.  Return Rate: Percentage of products returned due to quality issues.  Customer Satisfaction Score (CSAT): Measure of customer satisfaction with product quality. Process Improvement  Process Capability (Cp/Cpk): Statistical measure of a process's ability to produce output within specified limits.  Continuous Improvement Initiatives: Number and impact of quality improvement projects completed.  Cycle Time Reduction: Decrease in the time required to complete quality control processes. Efficiency and Cost Management  Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ): Total costs associated with defective products, rework, and scrap.  Inspection Efficiency: Time and resources required to perform quality inspections.  Productivity Improvement: Increase in productivity as a result of quality initiatives. Communication and Reporting  Timeliness of Quality Reports: On-time delivery of quality performance reports to senior management.  Accuracy of Quality Data: Precision and reliability of data reported in quality metrics.
