Mechanical Test House Technician RM 1&2

General Summary

The job holder is accountable for timely and accurately testing and reporting of physical, mechanical and metallurgical test results on steel samples following standard procedures and work instructions to confirm the product meet the required standards.

 
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Key Accountabilities)

Testing as per Specification of Products

  • To perform and record tests on production samples from each cast to ensure compliance to the related specification
  • Test products to see that they are safe to use and meet performance specifications
  • Work with the test materials to assess the equipment used to perform the tests
  • Supervision of technicians, Chemist, and assistants involved in physical and chemical testing activities
  • Shall be responsible for performing all Mechanical Test functions as specified in the Emirates Steel Nuclear QS Program to ensure compliance to applicable Standards, ASME Code and Customer requirements.

 

Reporting Abnormalities

  • To monitor and inform any surface abnormalities, yield and tensile values on the samples to mill and QC inspector to ensure follow up and corrective action.
  • Perform failure analyses to determine the cause of the problem and preventive measures.
  • Functional responsibility to ensure all testing procedures are carried out in accordance with required standards.
  • Expedition, preparation, verification and issue of reports.

 

Store Results in SAP

  • To store each cast mechanical test results in SAP to enable printing of test certificates to customers.

 

System Adequacy

  • Adherence to the Quality Systems such as IMS, ISO17025 as per company’s testing standard requirements, procedures and work instructions.

 

Non Routine Sample Testing

  • Carry out non routine tests for samples from mills, QC. To enable inspector to make decision on held bundles.

 

Preserve Samples for Inspection

  • Preserve the samples in case of any lap opening in bend test, bad steel and similar problems for inspection by Dept. Manager to take corrective measures.

 

Maintenance

  • Carryout routine Maintenance on testing and measuring equipment.

 

Problem Reporting

  • Record and report problems faced, break down or damages, spares & consumables required to his superior to ensure smooth functioning of testing activities

 

Safety, Health & Environment

  • To maintain and comply with the company safety, health & environmental aspects at the work places to avoid injuries, damage to equipment/environment

 

      NQA Responsibility:

  • The Mechanical Test House Technician reports to the QC Supervisor but shall report directly to the Head of QC, in the absence of the QC Supervisor and shall be responsible for performing all Mechanical Test activities as specified in the QP.
  • The Mechanical Test House Technician shall bring to the attention of the QC Supervisor and Head of QC any deviations that affect quality.

Minimum Education Qualifications (Must Haves)      Any preferred professional training (Nice to have)

  • Dip in mechanical/metallurgy or Graduate of Science
  • Computer skills
  • Knowledge of different instruments used in laboratories
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance of equipment
  • Knowledge of different specifications of rebar’s

 

 

Professional Experience (Must haves)                        Previous Experience/exposure Recommendations (Nice to have)

  • 2-5 years in physical and mechanical testing of rolled products (Reinforcing bars, wire rods and sections  in integrated steel plants
  • Similar experience in rolling mill laboratory
