Operator- RSM
General Summary
Operate and control the material passing through RSM to ensure straightens/Squareness of the bars are having good tolerance ranges within standard limit. Ensure smooth operation and safety of the equipment & inform any abnormalities to the related section SV/seniors. Monitor various parameters, graphs and be able to modify the parameters according to prime/bad quality bars. Operate and control the material flow from C/Bed & through RSM till reaches the Cold Saw entry, are segregated as per the planned jobs. Ensure not mix quality, different weights, keep them segregated according to quality & length wise as per plan/order requirements. Pass the information provided by QC about each & every layer/bar inspected at C/Bed, to the cold saw operator & ensure that they are cutting & segregating as per information/instruction provided like about head cut, tail cut, prime & scrap segregation etc.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Key Accountabilities)
- To operate the RSM/Cooling Bed as per standard working procedures. Observe & ensure not to cause any damages to the equipment’s.
- Always observe various parameters, monitors, graphs and be able to modify the parameters to ensure good Quality.
- Communicate upstream and downstream to ensure optimal operating conditions and reducing delays
- To be aware of safe operating procedures required to start, operate and stop/shutdown the RSM & C/bed equipment. Mobilizing-immobilizing the area.
- Ensure all related area equipment’s for any malfunction or fault and feedback the same to required personnel & to the senior.
- To prepare and make the C/Bed & RSM ready for new size in case of size change.
- To be familiar to make new set-up in OCW for RSM-C/BED data for nay new section to be rolled.
- Maintain housekeeping always & ensure scale cleaning in and around RSM area, assist with scrap length removal during weekly down day at finishing area.
- Able to identify malfunctioning of the equipment and give proper feedback to maintenance crew.
- Maintain all the parameters changing records in a well-documented manner & keep the documents in designated location.
- To keep the work area outside & inside the pulpit always clean and tidy including C/bed & forming area.
- Follow all management directives, regulations and policies relating to safety, quality, health and environment.
- Ensure the re-straightening of the material is done properly, safely & record/maintain all the data in record book
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with roll build up personnel for roll building in case of emergency or during size change when there is stoppages.
- Clearing cobble from C/bed rejected area on stoppage and down periods.
Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities (attributes) required
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.
- Knowledge on basic principles of mill process automation like Level 2 & SAP.
- Basic computer skills.
- Basic knowledge on products rolled in HSM, observing runout length of the section under rolling, familiar with all finishing area activities.
- Good written and spoken English skills.
- Good communication skills.
- Attentive to observe/watch all the area gauges, dials, monitors, L2 & L3 computer or other indicators to make sure all the machines are working properly.

Key Performance Indicators
- To reduce the operation delay related to C/Bed & RSM operation below 2.5%.
- To eliminate the mixing of bars, grades, lengths, Prime/non-prime material which may result in held bundles below 0.3%.
- To reduce short lengths by observing C/bed chart for the runout length & inform the UFR /Senior/Shift manager about the same to minimize the short length generation below 0.2%.
- Identify near-miss, hazards & report it.
- Ensure Zero accident by following safe operating procedure.
