Researcher - DRP

Role Purpose

Researcher is responsible for leading and executing advanced research and development initiatives across the iron and steel value chain, including Direct Reduction Processes (DRP), Steelmaking & Casting, and Structural Products such as Sheet Piles and Heavy Sections. The role focuses on process optimization, product innovation, sustainability, and quality enhancement through data-driven experimentation, modelling, and cross-functional collaboration.

 

Accountabilities & Activities

Key Activities

  • Process & Product Research:
  • Conduct trials and simulations to optimize DRP, steelmaking, casting, and structural product designs.
  • Develop predictive models and validate through plant trials.
  • Data Analysis & Optimization:
  • Analyse operational and experimental data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Support energy efficiency, emissions reduction, and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Technical Collaboration:
  • Work closely with Operations, Technology, and Quality teams to integrate research findings.
  • Liaise with academic institutions, research centres, and external labs.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
  • Prepare detailed technical reports and maintain organized records of research activities.
  • Present findings to internal and external stakeholders.

Safety, Quality & Environment

  • Ensure compliance to all relevant management policies, procedures, and controls within the Projects division of ESA to ensure employee safety, legislative compliance, delivery of high-quality products/service and a responsible environmental attitude.

 

Qualifications/Experience

Minimum Qualification

(Educational Qualifications, Trainings, or Certifications)

  • Bachelor’s/master’s degree in metallurgical, Chemical, or Materials Engineering.
  • Advanced degree preferred.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum 7 years in R&D roles within iron and steel manufacturing.
  • Experience in DRP, steelmaking, casting, and structural product development.
