SMP Material Handling Operator
General Summary
Optimally implements all related procedures, WI, directions concerning the Storage Yards, Raw Materials, and Scrap; receiving, handling and supplying to SMP. Coordinating the sub-contractor manpower, and observes all the plant’s safety rules and regulations. Supply of SMP Raw Materials (lime, dololime carbon charge carbon injection and flux), Ferro alloys Additives and metallic Scrap to SMP’s in timely manner to support uninterrupted SMP operational process. Manage the equipment’s and the resources flow to support the achievement of the SMP production plan.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Key Accountabilities)
Raw materials Receiving
Receives and verifies the materials received against the shipping/packing documents.
Visually inspects materials and collects sample for lime and dololime then send to the lab as per procedure.
Immediately reports to the supervisor any discrepancy, damage and/or abnormality in the materials.
Stores materials as per the procedures and working instructions.
Follows up MH Contractor activities while offloading and storing the materials.
Reports to the shift supervisor the received materials and any other activities.
Raw materials Supplying
Verifies the SMP’s silos level (visual and/or through EAF/LF control rooms).
Carries out routine inspections of material handling systems and facilities and immediately reports to the supervisor any observations found.
Operates material handling system through the control panel for charging Ferro alloys & other materials to SMP silos.
Cooperates with the maintenance personnel while maintaining the Material Handing System.
Follows up MH Contractor activities while supplying the materials.
Reports to the shift supervisors the supplied materials and any other activities.
Ensures all the waste during the charging are collected and communicated waste and byproduct team for the collection disposal.
Ensures activities conform to the approved IMS sectional procedures.
Record quantities collected & disposed from each location
Liaise with production departments on matters related to collection of wastes and by-products
Scrap Controlling
Receives and segregates different types of scrap as per yard plan.
Follows up the preparation of scrap billets and skulls.
Inspection of incoming purchase scrap for any abnormalities while offloading.
Identifies the required scrap type and estimates the quantity for charging.
Follows up with MH Contractor while charging the mini baskets to ensure correct quantity, quality and type of scrap has been charged to SMP, based on the basket arrangement as per SMP.
Issues scrap charging slip to the weighbridge for their report.
Reports to shift supervisor the receiving and supplying activities.
NQA Job Responsibility :
Shall be responsible for handling, storage and delivery of Raw material required for steel making plant operations as specified in the Emirates Steel QS Program to ensure compliance to applicable Standards, ASME Code and Customer requirements

Ensure and following ES safety rule and LSR’s
Report any unsafe act and condition in mysheq.
Achieve safety target of zero LTI and zero injury.
Promote good housekeeping and orderliness.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
- Communicates clearly to the concerned section and operators of the next shift about the operation parameters and current equipment operation/ conditions to ensure that the shift is handed over with full and clear information
- Continually checks and keeps the working area to ensure proper work environment.
- In case of emergency, takes all necessary counter measures and contact the appropriate staff as per operating procedures to minimize any risks to personal, plant or operation process.
- Provides assistance to all the staff to carry out work in safe manner.
- Identifies and report immediately any problem, discrepancy or abnormality in the equipment/ facility or process to ensure appropriate and prompt corrective action will be taken.
- Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

- Adequate knowledge of raw materials and Refractories, related specifications and area of applications.
- Adequate knowledge and understanding of safety, environment and quality procedures and standards.
- Adequate knowledge of chemistry, safety and environmental aspects of wastes, by-products of integrated steel plant.
- Ability to distinguish hazardous and non-hazardous wastes.
- Team-work skills.
- Good communication skills.
- English language and computer skills.
