Shift Supervisor

General Summary

Responsible and accountable for all shift operations in all areas of the Mill Rolling & Finishing Departments.  The role will include Health & Safety, Production, and Product Quality & mill preparation for engineering activities.  Involves high levels of planning & analytical thinking to resolve process & quality issues.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Key Accountabilities)

 

  • To plan and arrange pass/size changing activities in a better prepared manner to minimize overall downtime.
  • Better scheduling, tools management, material flow, execution and shop floor activities.
  • Demonstrate and improve production processes to ensure greater mill efficiency.
  • Work towards achieving departmental objectives and targets.
  • Meet production challenges such as to meet very demanding and frequently changing, delivery and product- customization requirement.
  • Identify production related technical problems and suggests solution thus ensuring continuous improvement. Suggests any modifications for improvement in productivity and quality.
  • Ensure implementation of production policies and standard work practices covering all rolling mill areas activities. Monitor employees to actively follow and support all company policies and procedures.
  • Individual training plans for all shift personnel & ensure the training is carried out
  • Comprehensively detailed shift report of all Mill & Finishing Department activities
  • Responsible for safety of employees and equipment. 
  • Investigate and record all accidents on the shift & complete all the necessary documents immediately to ensure the work area returns to a safe state of operation.
  • Report on any unsafe acts or conditions via the Near Miss reporting system
  • Check and issue permit to Work, record and store as required for H&S, Main Issuer during down periods.
  • Ensure compliance to all management directives, regulations and policies relating to safety, quality, health, and environment. Demonstrate good control across the rolling mill to guarantee employee safety, legislative compliance, delivery of high-quality products/services and a responsible environmental attitude.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Efficiency of the post is very critical as the entire shift activities are handled independently.
  • This position plays a crucial role as a link between the workforce and the front-line management.
  • Identify the deficiencies of team members and guide them towards improvement.

  • Good knowledge about rolling process and in Heavy Sections Mill
  • Thorough knowledge about functions of all areas of a Heavy Sections Mill activity
  • Knowledge on computer.
  • Sap system trained.
  • Strong skills in troubleshooting and quick decision-making ability.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and accurately and act decisively in a multi-cultural environment is also critical.
  • Basic idea on roll passes design.
  • Knowledge about finished products quality and tolerances.
  • Awareness on safety and safe working procedures.
  • Technical report writing.

 

Minimum Education Qualifications (Must Haves)      Any preferred professional training (Nice to have)

  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical or Metallurgical

engineering

 

 

Professional Experience (Must haves)                        Previous Experience/exposure Recommendations (Nice to have)

  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree with at least 4 years of experience (degree of subject to be mentioned in all JPs)
  • Technical Diploma with at least 10 years of experience.

 

  • Work experience in high-speed block mill operation.
